1. Illustrations and Photographs: -Photographs and illustrations can be used in the classroom as long as there are no more than 5 images from on artist/photographer. No more than 15 images or 10% may be used from a collection. I selected this rule because illustrations and photographs are used are often used to help students visualize the topic the teacher is teaching. Images are retrieved from the web to enhance presentations and lessons. Knowing this is critical to ensure teacher are abiding by copyright laws.
2. Video (for viewing): - Teachers are allowed to use videos in their classroom and copies can be only be made to replace copies. The material must acquired through legitimate source and should only be used for educational purposes. I chose this rule because videos are beneficial in giving students a different format of learning or reviewing material. Videos are often used to enhance lessons and make them more engaging for the students.
3.Music: - Only 10% of copyright music can be used in multimedia presentations by teacher and/or students. Also a maximum of 30 seconds per composition can be used. The music must be used for educational purposes only. I chose this rule because knowing how to properly input music in multimedia presentations is important for educators to be aware.
4.Internet: -Images can be downloaded for projects and presentations form the internet. Sound files and videos can also be downloaded for projects and presentations. All resources should be acquired in a legal and legitimate way. Classroom resources can be posted to a password and protected website. I chose this rule because I often use media from the internet for projects and presentations.
5.Printed Material: -Teachers are aloud to make copy's for educational purposes and students can incorporate text into multimedia projects. Only one copy is allowed per student and consumables such as workbooks are to not be copied. I chose this rule because often teachers make copies from books as supplements to their lessons. It is important to know what the copyright laws are for legal purposes.
Reflection:
These rules/laws are very beneficial to know. I was aware of copyright laws but I did not know any of the specifics other than to make sure I always cite my sources. Most of the specific rules were new to me and I will definitely keep these rules in mind when creating projects and presentations. I think it is also important to not only share these with educators but also with students. Knowing these rules/laws can prevent any legal actions that could taken for copyright purposes.
